≠ is not equal to
> is greater than
< is less than
≥ is greater than or equal to
≤ is less than or equal to
|| is parallel to
┴ is perpendicular to
| Natural numbers | Stating number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 …. |
Whole numbers | Stating number 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 …. |
Integers | Positive and negative whole numbers and zero: . . . −3, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, . . . |
Odd numbers | Numbers not divisible by 2: 1, 3, 5, 7, . . . |
Even numbers | Number divided by 2 : 2, 4, 6, 8 … |
Prime number | number divisible by only 1 and itself: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, . . . |
Composite number | number divisible by more than just 1 and itself: 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, . . . (0 and 1 are neither prime nor composite) |
Squares | the results when numbers are multiplied by themselves: 2 × 2 = 4; 3 × 3 = 9. Examples of squares are 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, . . . |
