Basic Facts of GMAT MBA Reading Comprehension
NUMBER OF QUESTIONS: 4 passage ( 4 -5 question per passage)
TEST SECTION: In the 75-Minute Verbal Ability section, along with Sentence Correction and Reading Comprehension questions
FORMAT: Multiple-choice (you select one of 5 choices by clicking on an oval)
SKILLS TESTED: Your ability to understand, comprehend, and reading speed, understand question.
Directions: Choose the best of the answer choices. The correct choice can be explicitly stated in the passage or has to be implied through the passage.
Reading Comprehension in GMAT exam can be distinguished on two factors parallel and horizontal. Parallel factors such as science passages, arts passages, social passages, biology passages, history passages, space passages, etc. Horizontal factors are small passages and long passages. In every GMAT exam a combination of parallel and horizontal factors are used in specific proportion. You may get 4 passage of which 1-2 passage may be small and 2-3 passage may be long one. Passage has 2 parts, one Comprehension ( Data) and the rest question to answer. We have already have discussed what type of passages are provided in the exam lets look it much more clearly.
Types of passages:
- Biological science: passages contain information on botany, medicine, or zoology
- Physical science: passages contain information on chemistry, physics, or astronomy
- Humanities: passages contain information on art, literature, music, folklore, or philosophy
- Social studies: passages contain information on history, government, economics, or sociology
Now look at the various type of question that are asked in GMAT MBA Exam:
- The main idea, main point, or possible title of the passage.
- Information that is directly stated in the passage.
- Information that is implied, suggested, or can be inferred.
- Applications of the authors opinions or ideas.
- The way the author develops and presents the passage.
- The style or tone of the passage.
Quick Tips:
- Use only the information stated in the passage, Don’t use the information from outside or your own. Even though your information may be accurate that the given information.
- Before choosing the best answer, read all the chocies once.
- If you are not sure about the best answer use the power of elimination and then use the best answer
- Don’t memorizing the passage, memorize only the main point or purpose and the structure of the passage
- Each passage contain number line use it for quick search for answer.
