Idioms are expressions that have unique form. Even though there is no hard and fast rule for idioms but there are unique was to write the idioms. For example: RANGE FROM X to Y is an idiomatic expression. It is unique and it should be written as they are said. Why? because English convention say so.
If you are from English speaking country, idiomatic expression are enprinted into your brain ( Lucky People) and you are able to correct the idioms while speaking and hearing.Your ears are your weapon in choosing the correct idiomatic expression. For people who do not have English as the native language, this is bad news. You now have to mug all the idioms. I know what you feel now so I give you the table of Idioms MUG IT UP.
